アーチーズ国立公園はユタ州東部モアブに位置し、1971年に国立公園に指定。年間平均７５万人が訪れる人気の公園で、2000を超える自然に出来た様々な奇砂岩のアーチで有名。中でも、ダブル・オー・アーチ、デリケートアーチ、バランスロック、ランドスケープアーチが代表的。この不思議な景色が作りだされる原因としては、海水がこの地域に流れ込み蒸発し、およそ３億年前にコロラド高原に堆積した塩分を含む岩塩層。この層が数百万年に渡り、堆積、圧力、風化、浸食を繰り返し、様々な形の岩石が形成された。園内ではドライブ、トレッキング、サイクリング、キャンプ、またガイド付きツアーなどが楽しめる。次々に移り変わる景色を眺めるのが忙しいくらい、ドライブだけでも十分に楽しめ、主要部分は１日で見て回ることが出来る。この広大な大地でゆっくりハイキングやなどを楽しみたい方は２、３日割くべき。異様な空間に放り込まれたような感覚になり、言葉が出なくなるほど圧倒され、自然の芸術に癒されるのでお勧めスポット。

Arches National Park, designated as National Park in
1971, is located in eastern Utah. The park is known for preserving over 2000
natural sandstone arches In addition to a variety of unique geological
resources and formations. Among all, Double Arch, Balanced Rock, Delicate Arch,
and Landscape Arch are well known. The salt bed or underground evaporate layer
was formed over the Colorado Plateau 300 millions of years ago. This layer has
been piled, squeezed, weathered, and eroded over millions of years, resulting
in the formation of the arches, spires, balanced rocks, sandstone fins, and
eroded monoliths. In the park, you can go driving, trekking, cycling, camping,
and tour with guides. While driving, you will be busy on looking around the
quick-changing sceneries every moment. Link
