Paradise before school starts オアフ島半周の旅

The school starts today!! I'm taking Atmospheric Dynamics 1, Statistical Meteorology, and Climate and Climate Variability with total 9 credit hours.　　今日から学校が始まったよー　今学期は大気力学、気象統計学、気候とその変動の3つのクラス。正直ついていけるか大心配ｗ　サーフィンと文武両道で頑張っていこう!ｗ

BTW, my friend and I went driving on half of Oahu and doing some marine sports last Saturday, taking 17 hours! It was so much fun!!　一昨日、オリエンテーションであった友達と早速オアフ半周旅行してきた。17時間くらいかかったからねｗ
(A)We departed Waikiki 8am.

(B)Kailua & Lanikai Beach（カイルア＆ラニカイビーチ）-------We borrowed a kayak and paddled all way down to Flat Island, where many wild birds inhabit, and Lanikai Beach. On our way, we saw a baby sea turtle!! Also, we did snorkelling, but my friend got a jellyfish attack, so decided to go back to get some medicine. Thanks to the attack and strong wind on that day, we gave up going to one of the desert islands(refer the pic below)　カイルアにある行き付けの!?レンタルショップでカヤック借りて早速フラットアイランドに向かった。強風のせいで双子島!?には行けず、ラニカイビーチでスノーケリング。友達がクラゲにやられたけど、60センチくらいの海がめの子供も見れて大満足!!





(C)Byodo-in in Kaneohe（カネオヘにある平等院）---------There is a Japanese temple called Byodo-in. I've even never seen the real Byodo-in in Kyoto,Japan lol

(D)(E)We drove all way along the north-east coast via Kualoa, Kahuku, and Turtle Bay resort.　クアロア、カフク、タートルベイまでひたすら北上。

(F)Sunset Beach in north shore　（サンセットビーチ）----- We stopped by Sunset Beach and took a nap for 2 hours to get some tan and wait the sunset. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!　波のないサンセットビーチへ。ここは冬になったら怪物と化すんだろうなｗ　日が沈むまで2時間くらい昼寝。夕焼けマジ綺麗だった！


(G)Haleiwa Town（ハレイワ）---- we got some seafood dinner here. I wanted to stop by some surf shops, but they were all closed=( I want to come back here in North shore soon to see people surfing on 10 - 20 feet tall crazy waves in winter.　時間も時間でサーフショップ見れなくて残念....

(H)Tantalus Hill（タンタラスの丘）----- You can see such a nice night scenery of Honolulu from this hill. However, this cannot beat both the night scenery of Chicago from Hancock Tower and the one of New York from Rockafellar Center.　旅の締めくくりは、タンタラスノ丘で夜景。夜景が綺麗っていうより、ちょい雨交じりの冷たい風が気持ちよかったｗ　シカゴとかニューヨークの夜景を見てるから、ホノルルの夜景はたいしたことなし！　

Hiking at Diamond Head ダイヤモンドヘッド

Just a brief update again thanks to lack of the Internet access in my room yet!　部屋にインターネットが無いから自分のオフィスから簡単にアップデート。

I finally found my apartment last weekend and things have settled down, giving me some free time to go surfing and other activities with my friends!! It's not comfortable to stay in my room since there is no furniture yet like the image below. I need to wait for one month to get all kinds of furniture from my friend, so be patient and patient.　全然家具がないから住んでる気しないｗ


Anyway, I went hiking with my friend at Diamond Head yesterday. You can see pretty much everything around the south shore of Oahu from up there.　昨日友達とダイヤモンドヘッドにハイキングしに行ってきた。

Finally, I found this one apartment located on the center of Honolulu! 5 min walk to Ala Moana Center, 25 min walk to University of Hawaii, 15 min walk to beach!
ついにアパートを決めた。最後の最後までねばってねばって手に入れたのがこれ。850ドルスタジオ。アラモアナショッピングセンターまで徒歩5分。大学まで25分。ワイキキ、アラモアナビーチまで徒歩15分。ここに1年間住む事になった。

Waikiki Beach & Diamond Head
Aloha! I finally arrived in Honolulu this morning. After I got off the airplane, I had to wait 8 hours to check-in at the hotel. So I went for a walk for long time. I guess it was about 6 miles around Waikiki. As I expected, there are tons of Japanese people in Waikiki area. As I expected, things are so expensive here. For example, $5 footlong subway is $8 here! As I expected, I don't need to speak English here when I order even at Starbucks and check-in hotel. I don't know if I like this, but weather is awesome!!
アロハ～　やっとハワイに上陸！ホテルに荷物預けてからチェックインできる2時まで暇だったから、ホテルからウォルマート、アラモアナセンター、往復やく10キロくらい歩いてきた。もう1日でワイキキエリアは制覇したかな!?笑　日本人の数はあり得ないし、物価は高いし、英語必要ないし...やなことばっかだけど、この天気が全部忘れさせてくれる!!

Los Angeles & Santa Monica ロスとサンタモニカ

Some pics from LA. My friend took me to major points in LA such as Hollywood Highland, Beverly Hills, Gliffith Observatory, and Little Tokyo. My opinion is that Chicago is much more urbanized than LA, especially in downtown. But there are many sightseeing places and beaches in LA.　
友達に連れて行ってもらった所：ハリウッド、ビバリーヒルズ、グリフィス天文台、リトル東京。アメリカ中東部とは全然違うから楽しかった！

We also went to Malibu Beach!! It was already dark and I couldn't see people surfing... 夜にマリブービーチへ。海岸沿いは高級住宅街。ウサギは友達のペットｗ

I went to Santa Monica Beach with my friend and his roommates to play beach volleyball and do body-surfing. 友達のルーミーたちとサンタモニカビーチにビーチバレーとボディサーフィンへ。

And I also went to Venice Beach just to look around. It's neat place along the beach!　ベニスビーチへ。ちょこっとだけサーフィンを見たり、海岸沿いにある出店を見回った。


It was very nice to visit my friend and see some famous places in LA, as well as beautiful beach there!! Three day was not enough for me to enjoy for everything there. 初めてのロスは思ったよりは良かったなぁ～　あんなにどうでもいい所だと思ってて、実際そうかもしれなかったけど、友達に久しぶりに会えたのが大きかった！　一人でロスなんか観光したらちょーつまらなそうｗｗ　ハッキリ言っちゃうと、ハリウッドに相当興味が無い限り、ロスは日本からわざわざ来て行く所ではない。

Death Valley National Park デスバレー国立公園

On my way to Los Angeles from Las Vegas, I stopped by Death Valley National Park in California. Yes, Death Valley on August...one of the hottest places in the World! As I drove down to the valley, it was getting hotter and hotter.　世界でも有数な砂漠地帯デスバレー国立公園。標高2000mのピークから海抜－85mまで徐々に降下するにつれて熱がジワジワジワジヮ・・・

At Badwater Basin point (pic below), where is the lowest place in the U.S. 282 feet/85.5m below sea level, it was 125F(51.6℃） and windy!!　ここがアメリカで一番標高の低い海抜－85.5メートルのバッドウォーターベイスン。熱風が吹いてて、気温は51.6℃。

Mesquite Flat Dunes　公園中部にある砂丘地帯。車から結構離れてたし、気温47℃の中歩いてはいけなかった....

When I was about to leave the park, I finally could get close to a huge dust devil. It was pretty intense!暑すぎてあり得ない（笑）から公園を去ろうとしたとき、巨大な砂の竜巻ダストデビルに遭遇!!　迫力あったな～

Overall, I really don't want to go back to the park again since it was REDICULOUSLY HOT!! You even don't want to get off your car in the park. But I had scuh a good experience to feel that kind of extreme weather. I had a gallon of water this day.
この公園には2度と戻りたくないと思ったｗ　車を降りて写真を撮るたびに車内が熱くなって、暑すぎて逆に汗でないし、常にのど渇くし、たまに熱風の強風が吹いて車に砂は入るし....水も1ガロンは飲んだｗ　なかなかいい経験でした。

Driving to Las Vegas ラスベガスまで

I drove all way down to LA and I'm now in Santa Monica, staying in my friend's place. Since I've been busy on dropping off my car, sightseeing, having fun with my friends here, and still looking for an apartment in Hawaii, I hadn't had much time to update my blog. So I'll just post some pictures of my trip with less detail.Enjoy!
