Sunrise@Olomana Peak オロマナピークでの日の出

Last weekend, my friend and I left the town at 4am, started to hike up at 5, and got to the first peak of Mt.Olomana in windward side of Oahu to watch the sunrise at 6:08am. It was scary to hike in the dark...... The Olomana's first peak is about 500m, where typical trade wind cumulus cloud base is located in the well-mixed moist layer. When we got to the first peak, the top was inside of the cloud, but was clearing up soon after the sunrise. It was typical trade wind condition and orographic lifting produced some cloud in leeward side (Koolau Range). This setup, which we were in between sunrise and cloud, made us see "Brocken Spectre" It was pretty cool to see it. We later climbed up and down to the second and third peaks where is dangerous, but fun!

先週末、またまたオロマナ山に行ってきた。今回は、真っ暗な早朝５時から登り始めて、６時の日の出に間に合うように計画。真っ暗な森を歩くのは少し勇気が必要だったけど、頂上での朝日は絶景だった！太陽の光が、山を挟んで、雲に照りつけてブロッケン現象まで見ることができた。その後は、初めてもっと危険な第２、３ピークに挑戦。高所恐怖症の俺にはスリル満点の岩登りだった。

カウアイ島のワイメア渓谷は、米国本土のグランドキャニオンに似ており、別名「太平洋のキャニオン」と呼ばれている。このスケールの大きい渓谷は、何百万年もかけて、カウアイ島の大地をワイメア川が浸食し、谷底との標高差は最大１０００mにも及ぶ。「ワイメア」はハワイ語で「赤茶の水」のこと。カウアイ島の中心付近の年平均降水量は世界一で、地球上で最も湿った場所とも言われている。気象条件が揃えば、月の光が当たってできるムーンボウを見ることができるスポットとしても有名。

Waimea Canyon, also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, is a large canyon located on the western side of Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands. It was formed by a deep erosion of the Waimea River, with its depth up to about 3000 feet. “Waimea” is Hawaiian for “reddish water”, a reference to the erosion of the canyon’s red soil. My mom, grandma, and me went to one of the neighbor islands of Hawaii "Kauai" This is the first time for me to go to the neighbor island. I really feel aloha sprit there! １泊２日のカウアイ島の旅。オアフ島とは違って、恐竜が出てきそうな雰囲気のカウアイ島は大自然！ マリーンアクティビティーをしなければ２日で十分回れる島だった。
