Waimea Canyon, also known as the Grand Canyon of the
Pacific, is a large canyon located on the western side of Kauai in the Hawaiian
Islands. It was formed by a deep erosion of the Waimea River, with its depth up
to about 3000 feet. “Waimea” is Hawaiian for “reddish water”, a reference to
the erosion of the canyon’s red soil. The rainfall near the central Kauai is
extreme, where is known for the wettest place on earth. Under a favorable
condition, you may be able to see a moonbow, a rainbow produced by light
reflected off the surface of the moon instead of direct sunlight.
