Beautiful Windward ウィンドワード

The sky was just spectacular in the windward side of Oahu today. My girlfriend just bought her new digital camera and we took these pictures. Recent cameras have many options to take different kinds of scenes and pictures just come out as almost well as real sceneries. 今日のウィンドワードサイド。ウィンドワードとは風上の事で、貿易風が常に北東から吹いてるここオアフではカネオへ、カイルア、ラニカイの方がウィンドワードと呼ばれる地域。下の写真は彼女が最近買ったデジタルカメラで撮ったもの。最近のカメラは撮った写真がオートで色鮮やかに加工されたりするみたい。

south swell 久々のサーフィン

The Quicksilver Big Wave Contest in Memory of Eddie Aikau was cancelled due to the lack of consistency of swell, though more than 15,000 people gathered at Waimea Bay to look forward watching such a huge wave. It was decided to cancel it because "Eddie would not go".. Anyway, it's been a little while to go back into the water because of the typical winter minimal southerly swell. I enjoyed some chest-high waves at Point Panic yesterday.

サウスショア久しぶりの腰〜腹サイズのファンウェーブ。エディーアイカウは、波の大きさは良かったんだけど、セット間隔が３０〜４０分と長くとても勝負にならないから中止になった。一昨日の朝はワイメア湾に１万５千人もの観客が押し寄せたけど、開催者側は「エディーならこの程度の波は行かない」と判断して大会中止。

I caught this picture of pre-frontal high cloud at sunset yesterday. 昨日の夕暮れ時、氷で出来た高層雲が珍しい色に映えていた。

It is pretty common in Hawaii to use a Hawaiian Kona fresh coffee instead of gas=) ハワイではガソリンの代わりに、ハワイ・コナ産のフレッシュコーヒーを使うのが主流。

John, Haruhi, and I had a dinner at arancino, an Italian restaurant, in Waikiki the night before John left. It was such a great Italian dishes. ジョン最後の夜はワイキキにあるイタリアンレストラン、アランチーノへ。

I was chasing a moray eel at Hanauma Bay and he tried to bite my camera and my hand. ハナウマ湾でウツボを追いかけてたら口を開けて警戒してきてビックリしてしまったw

12/29　　　We went to the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. The oil is still leaking from the USS Arizona about 2 gallons per day.　パールハーバーのアリゾナ戦艦記念碑。１日２ガロン（約７リットル）の油が未だに漏れているらしい。

12/30　　　We went to Hanauma Bay, where you can do snorkeling to see many kinds of tropical fish. ハナウマでシュノーケル。
Later, we stopped by Makapuu and Hawaii Kai. その後はマカプーとハワイカイに寄り道。
In the afternoon, we hiked at Diamond Head. 午後はダイヤモンドヘッドでハイキング。


12/31 We went to northshore this day, stopping by Pipeline and Laniakea beach. この日はノースへ。


1/1 It was nearly 5x more people than usual on Lanikai beach this day. 普段の５倍くらいは人がいたラニカイビーチ。

1/2 John tried surfing at Waikiki. ジョン、サーフィン初トライ。

1/3 Pipeline again. It was double~triple overhead(10~15ft) wave there. またまたパイプラインへ。この日はダブル〜トリプルオーバーヘッド（３〜５m）。
The waves breaking at the same time at Pipeline(backdoor)(right) and Off the Wall(left). パイプライン（右の波の右側）、バックドア（右の波の左側）、オフ・ザ・ウォール（左の波）で１つのうねりが同時にブレイク。
On our way back, we also stopped by Waimea Bay. 帰りはもちろんワイメアのショアブレイクで水遊び。
