I survived from tremendous amount of Dynamics homework and presentation last 2 weeks. For dynamics class, we have been learning "waves", including lamb wave, sound wave, Rossby wave, equatorial Kelvin wave, inertial and internal gravity waves....many waves!! The homework ask you to derive all those waves and plot the pattern. gosh, my final homework paper has 15 pages long, including computational plots! In climate variability class, I presented about the paper "Elimination of Greenland Ice Sheet in a high CO2 Climate" by J.K. Ridley et al.published in 2005. It was very interesting article. What in the article is basically to see what's going to happen on the Greenland Ice Sheet if you give a climate forcing by increasing atmospheric CO2 amount by 1160ppm, 4 times greater than the preindustrial. Also, this study is the first experiment to use "two-way coupling" which is the General Circulation Model(GCM) combined with the regional Greenland Ice Sheet Model(GISM), so to get climate feedback between GCM and GISM by calculating the surface water budget, rate of ablation and calving, orography change of the ice sheet and bedrock, surface runoff and retention, variations of albedo with detailed surface features such as types of soil and vegetation....etc Briefly summarizing the result,
1. If you let the model run with CO2 amount of 1160ppm, it takes 3000 years for the 93% of all ice sheet over Greenland to melt.
2. During this period, freshwater input to the Atlantic ocean would cause the weakening of thermohaline circulation, the southerly shift of westerly flow and polar front due to the orographic change.
3. IF all ice melt in Greenland, the global average sea level would rise 7 meter with a peak rate of 5mm/yr. This is very unrealistic in terms of the current climatological aspect.
4.Instead of CO2 forcing, if taking a temperature forcing by increasing 12℃ as a global mean temperature, it would only take 1000 years for all ice in Greenland to disappear.
5. The rate of melting would accelerate when the rate of ablation increases, generating more ice-free area where increased surface temperature and decreased surface pressure cause ascending motion, which causes descending motion over high elevated ice sheet and warming more and more.
well, if I explain all here by typing, it would take more time than my 40 min presentation, so I stop here.. But personally I'm interested in this kind of topic. i.e. "Climatologically, what is going to happen in the future?"
By the way, today is my payday,,lol so I bought an upper wet suit because it's so cold being in the water these days.... Even though I say it's cold, the high is still 80s and low 70s. But more cloudy, rainy, and windy days blocking the sunshine.

やっと気候のクラスのプレゼンも終わって1週間ほど余裕が出来そう。っていっても、学期末までに宿題5つ、プレゼン1つ、ペーパー1つと、最後の最後まで休ませてくれないのが大学院生活・・・・・ けどそれが終われば寒くもなく,
雪も降らず、異様な冬休みの始まりｗ 何もプラン考えてないや。 誰か来ないかな～
I brought my camera to take some underwater pictures of where I surf; Publics and Rockpile on the South shore. Those reefs are 1~3ft depth when it is high tide, and less than 1 ft depth when it is low tide. I always hit them when I fall from the board....
最近はサーフィンするときカメラ携帯。今日も海ガメ見つけたけど撮れなかった・・・。写真は、パブリックスとロックパイルの海の中の様子。干潮時の深さは３０cmもない場所、満潮時は１mくらい深いから大丈夫なんだけど、今日も膝から落ちたらぐさって当たって、膝負傷ｗ あがったら血がダラダラだったｗ 強敵の尖ったリーフも撮れたし、魚もたまたま映った。
Today, I made a little trip to Northshore again. On my way to go there, I stopped by one of the 6 spiritual power spots in Oahu, "Kukaniloko(Birth Stone)" near Wahiawa, where royalty came for the birth of their children to assure their high-ranking status long time ago. ドールの近くにある”クカニロコ（バース・ストーン）”に寄って見た。パイナップル畑にある大小の岩。出産の痛みを和らげるとされ、かつて王族の女性たちが出産をした場所でもある。（←るるぶ参照ｗ）
I went to see some great surfers at Pipeline. The wave was 5-10ft tall. Such an awesome day to just be there on the beach. All surfers are incredibly great!! 今日はパイプラインの隣、オアフオアフ島にあるビーチで唯一２つあるビーチブレイク（砂で波が割れる）の１つ、エフカイで入ろうとしたけど、波が大きすぎて断念・・・・けど、パイプラインでプロ級のサーファーを見れて最高だった!!!!
Big wave on Northshore today!! I made a trip to there right after the class. My friend and I first stopped by Rocky point, where the surf was forecasted about 22-30ft. When we got there yesterday afternoon, the swell was actually dying. But we could see such a huge wave far offshore. Then, we headed to Sunset Beach, Pipeline, and Waimea Bay. You cannot really tell how HUGE those waves are in the pictures....but it was incredibly solid and powerful.
My friends and I went to "KAILUA JAMFEST SUNDAY", which I don't know what the heck it is. But we went there to have fun at all kinds of boards, such as body boarding, paddle surfing, and kite surfing, plus BBQ!
友達とＢＢＱ＆ボディボードやらパドルサーフィンやらカイトサーフィンをしにカイルアへ。ぃや～感想を一言で言うと、極寒でした....冬のハワイの海、水着一丁じゃ入れません!!

Yesterday was holiday, so my friend took me to the surf spot called Kaiser's, where only locals can surf. We were out there for 4 hours from the dawn! Kaiser's is very shallow reef and the wave gets steep suddenly. Definitely, Kaiser's is for experienced surfers. It was fun since I took off several times. But I hit the reef and broke my surfboard again....sucks! Oh, I got a jellyfish attack on my arm this time...lol I feel sea animals like to attack me... I may get a bite by a tiger shark someday!?
After the surfing, we went to the local seafood restaurant in Pier 38, called Nico's. I had "Fried Ahi Belly" and my friend "Grilled Ahi Sandwich". "Ahi" means Tuna in Hawaiian. They were so tasty and I love it! I'll come back there sometime soon again. 
昨日は祝日だったから、友達にカイザーズに連れて行ってもらって、夜明けから4時間もサーフィン！カイザーズは、サウスではベストスポットでローカルしか入れないから、友達の顔がなきゃ行けない・・・。サウスに波がないときでも、なぜかここだけ波がある不思議な場所。ってのも、ワイキキから出るクルーズ船とかの河道の脇にあって、深い所からいきなり浅い三角形の形をした珊瑚があって、どの方向からのうねりも拾えるから。何回か乗れて楽しかった～ けど、クラゲに襲われて、腕に変な赤い斑点できたｗ しかも、珊瑚にボードぶつけてまたもやボード破損・・・・・。サーフィンのあとは昼近かったから、ピア38にあるNico'sっていうローカルが集うアヒ（マグロ）がメインの食堂で、アヒの腹部フライ食べた。友達が食べてたグリル・アヒ・サンドイッチのほうが美味しそうだったけど・・・今度はそっちにしよ。
We've had such a nice south swell on southshore here these days. I think it's pretty rare to have this much swell in this time of year. I went to the edge of the Magic Island. The wave was about 5-7ft(2-3ft in Hawaiian size), which is still too big and fats for me to catch up. 
最近は、なかなか良い南うねりが来てて、サウスショアは大混雑。昨日はマジックアイランドの端で入ってきたけど、波大きすぎて、速すぎて、なかなかテイクオフできなかった・・・・。アラモアナ前、ヒルトン前、ワイキキ前はサーファーの群れ群れ群れ。
なかなか乗れずパドルばっかりしてて、挙句の果てにモンスターセットに飲まれてテンション下がって、波のインパクトで肩の筋痛める始末・・・。寒くなってきたし、ウニの事故現場を迂回して戻った後は、しばらく夕日を見ながら、自分の度胸のなさに途方に暮れてた・・・・・・ｗ 早く上手くなりたいな～ ってことで、明日朝一でリベンジ!! 予報では4－6ftだけど、セット3メートル位のくるんだろうな・・・・
